External Beeswax – Gothic Thumb Latch – Anvil 91497
A thumb latch set is a decorative door latch with a thumb shaped lever. It is traditionally used on a ledge and braced door. When the thumb shaped lever is pressed down this operates a thumb bar which passes through the door, this lifts the latch bar on the opposite side causing it to open.
Our external beeswax is unique to “From the Anvil” and is manufactured from an anti-corrosive beeswax which is salt tested to 480 hours. It has a matt richness and similarly to our standard beeswax the depth of colour ranges from blue to deep red ochre.
Our blacksmith thumb latches are hammered into shape from mild steel using the traditional manufacturing method of an anvil and fire.
Thumb latches are usually used in conjunction with a tee hinge on traditional plank doors.
Maximum door thickness: 55mm. Supplied with matching wood screws.
