The front features a cherub playing a pipe, surrounded by flowers and decorative detailing. What’s more, the reverse continues the musical theme with further beautifully cast motifs.

The back carries the clearly cast A. Kenrick & Sons name together with the model number 425. Therefore, the maker and design can be readily identified.

Condition

This Kenrick No. 425 Door Knocker remains in good reclaimed condition for an original Victorian piece dating from the 1880s.

The cast iron has developed a naturally aged surface, with variations in colour, wear and patina from many years of use. Importantly, it has not been heavily refinished, so the character of the old iron remains visible.

The previous owner supplied the fittings shown in the photographs, and these are included in the sale. The strike plate appears to be a later replacement. However, the upper coach screw may be original to the piece.
